Linda asks…
I don’t understand it… Surely his dog food tastes nicer than plants out in the garden?
I know very well that some vegans struggle with their health, because I hear frequently from those who are looking for help. Most who contact me are animal advocates who are experiencing nutrient deficiencies (diagnosed through blood work) or they simply don’t feel well. These are not people who are eating junk-food vegan diets. Anyone who gets sick from eating a diet based on potato chips and cookies will usually have a fairly good idea of why they got sick, and they also know how to take some steps to fix that. Instead, those who write to me are usually eating what they believe to be a healthy diet, based on whole plant foods. They are also very motivated to stay vegan.Writer Sayward Rebhal describes that motivation in a recent blog post about her experience with failing health. She was determined to make a vegan diet work, to reclaim her health without abandoning her commitment to an ethic that she describes as the “cornerstone of my life.”
Helen asks…
Hi, I ahve bats in my garden, i’ve seen them flying about at dusk, but how do I identify the type of bat and where are they likely to be living?
It can be very hard to ID a bat without recording it’s calls with a special bat detector called an anabat or a sonabat. You can sometimes take down flight patterns, size, wing shape, ear shape, and color info to help ID it..but to be sure..you must record it’s calls. You can purchase frequency range detectors for about a hundred dollars..which can help narrow the species down a bit as well along with your observations. Depending on species (you did not mention where you live) they may be roosting in trees, rock crevices, caves or man-made structures: bridges, barns, house attics, etc. To learn more about bats..see my 360 page blog.
Paul asks…
I use yahoo answers a lot but sometimes I would rather discuss than Question-Answer things. What is a forum or blog that discusses questions about all kinds of things like yahoo answers does?
Thanks!
