Is growing your own fruits and vegetables cheaper?
Is it cheaper to buy your own fruits and vegetables from the grocery store or is it cheaper to grow your own?

Mixed situation. You certainly cannot grow ALL the vegetables you need w/o a lot of space and work; possibly a big water bill too if you live in a drought area.
Fruits are dubious unless you have orchards and the manpower (and pollinators) to manage them. The plants tend to be very susceptible to disease and pests and have other demands like freeze hours.
Best thing is to identify what WILL grow well in your area w/minimal watering or soil adjustment (example: I live somewhere that has very alkaline soil and water, which makes most crops very difficult.) per the season and using those items heavily instead of the supermarket’s ‘buffet’ produce selection. Where I live, I’m very limited, but still manage to produce salad greens, hot peppers, melons, and cucumbers with enough to share with friends. I also make my own compost so I don’t have to buy it for fortifying soil and I collect rainwater when I can so I don’t run my water bill up.

You know what I mean. Whats the easiest fruit or veggie to grow from seed from their own plant.

Any of the beans (legumes) are really easy to grow from their own seed. When kids come in and ask for a fast growing and easy to germinate seed, I always recommend beans.
Most any of the seeds you get from other veggies should do fine, but to answer your question, I will stick with beans. That’s my story, and I’m stickin’ to it–LOL.

Well I am not a vegetarian but my family owns am 1800 hectare crop farm.. We have fruits, grain and veggies, organic and non organic…part of the farm (one of two lakes)has also been desinated as a wildlife sanctuary for migratory birds

Good question, as it is legal in many places served by this forum. In many applications it’s superior to cotton. In most states, a judge and jury would have to be pretty stoned to believe you were growing it to knit a sweater. However the cotton lobbyist on capital hill wouldn’t want it legal. RScott

as everybody is growing their own cannabis these days and the war on drugs in this country failed many years ago im am going to grow my own cannabis so i dont have to buy expensive crap weed from scummy unemployed poeple. me and my wife enjoy a nice spiff and have enough room in our spare bedroom for a small growing tent. we are going to amsterdam “again” this year to buy the seeds and would like some general tips on starting our own crop in a small grow tent bought online. please dont comment if you are one of those government robots who have no clue about weed and dont know it is a harmless chill-out substance . thankx guys

So, My friend gave me some seeds the other day and i want to plant them. All i know so far:
plant them outdoors(the best way) around late april.

Put the seeds in a pot (pun intended) and barely cover them with potting soil. Water well and leave in a sunny location. That sh*t will grow almost anywhere. If you do this, you are breaking the law. It is illegal in almost every area of the US to possess or cultivate cannabis.

So first of all , i’m planning on growing my own tobacco, and I have heard or more like read, that the havana tobacco is quite easy to grow and has a good taste, is it true ?
Second because i’m going to smoke a pipe, i was wondering if there his ,besides the havana, any type of tobacco that I should plant and also how thick should I cut those leaves, after the color curing.

Is it legal in CA to grow 1 pot of tobacco?
Like one flower pot, single plant of tobacco that’s found in cigarettes, for personal use? I don’t like the store cigs with all the cancer causing addictive chemicals mixed in the tobacco, would rather grow a tiny bit for my own use – don’t see how it could be illegal. Any ideas? No different than growing my own tomatoes cuz i don’t want to buy genetically engineered pesticide sprayed ones from the store.

Should I invest in tobacco and rolling papers since people will be rolling their own pretty soon?
Prices nationwide range between $4 a pack to around $9 per pack (depending on where your at).
Most of this price increase is due to new “sin taxes” = smokers are bad for smoking, tax them.
But won’t people eventually realize one small investment in a rolling machine, rolling papers, and your own tobacco would save A FORTUNE?

Yea, a tax to pay for kids health care and the gov admitted they would need 22 million more smokers to fully fund the program.

My best friends brother grows magic mushrooms, she sells oxycotton, and her mother deals marijuana. They live right by an elementary school and creepers come and go all the time and their neighbors got robbed so they can have the money. They live in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I love them to death but this is getting unsafe for the neighborhood now and someone needs to take action

Shrooms, so what, Pot so what, Oxctontin (not cotton) now thats like heroin, but still so what, adults will make their own choices to find drugs, now unless you see them sell to a kid in an elementary school you shouldn’t be concerned, but why cant you live your own life? Be drug free, but dont impose your way of life on anothers.
How exactly is them selling drugs to people that go to them in the first place making the neighborhood dangerous? Is their guns involved? Is their violent crimes being committed?
Lots of thumbs down by people who just dont understand, people are going to do drugs regardless if people snitch, people who ratt people out usually end up seriously hurt

Assuming that you are talking about ‘magic mushrooms’ (Psilocybin mushrooms), the price would vary on who you know, where you live, the season, and the availability. In rural Minnesota I’ve seen it as low as $30 for 1/8th oz and as high as $60 for 1/8th oz. Generally it is around $40 per 1/8th oz and cheaper if you buy more at a time…!!

The chances are rather high dear. If cancer misses you, then you could also die from emphysema, another common tobacco caused disease. It is a rather unpleasant way to go. Basically you drown from the inside….

I know that commercial tobacco uses bug spray and other adulterants.

I bought my seeds from New Hope Seed Company. I think they have the best prices and selection, but visit their website and decide for yourself. I don’t think there are any age restrictions for buying seeds. Some people simply grow tobacco for the beauty of the plants. New Hope charges $1.99 for 100 seeds, although you get much more than 100, nobody actually counts them.
My plants are only about 2 inches tall right now and will be ready to go in the ground in about 3 weeks. You will love growing your own tobacco and reviving that family tradition.

Having recently been made redundant from work, i thought i would use my skills and give self employment a go, specializing in garden maintenance and tree services. Having done a bit of advertising, i have now gained a few customers. However i find it really daunting pricing jobs up. I don’t want to go in really cheap and work for nothing taking into consideration my overheads. On the other hand, i don’t want to appear greedy and go in with a huge price and risk not getting the job.. Any advice please…

The best way is to look at the job work out how long it will take you then how much you need to cover your wage and other outgoings ie insurance petrol transport ETC once you have done it a few times its easy and remember you wont get all the jobs you quote for there are a lot of cowboys out there undercutting genuine landscapers and at the end of the day you only get what you pay for Good luck with your new venture i am sure you will do well
