Linda asks…

Does anyone elses wife do things to turn them off?

My wife tries to get me in the mood after she is bossy with me and the kids.
Usually before we go to bed she “tries things”, I am usually the one to try different things. But after a tough day it is so not easy to get reved up?

GardenersCardiff answers:

Once – a long story, but I am waiting to get out of work, so I have the time!
Yes once, my husband is pretty old fashioned “MAN” does not stray to far out there. There was one occasion where he would not even make an attempt or accept his reward for helping me out of a jam!
Me I would consider myself normal, except this internet blogging thing I love! Anyway a little about me: I am a Para-Pro for Elem. Education. Husband does computers or some type of software design for Ford and GM.
I am a mom of 2 middle school kids, 37, about 5′ 5″, 115 lbs., brunette hair down to my mid back, C cup, I like to run and bike. I am also tan (oh I also have a tanning problem) I would consider myself not that bad looking.
I do have a very oily skin condition which I have always had and to counter act it I bath nude in mud.
Last July our kids where up North with friends and it was just me and him and I thought I was about do for a bath, so I put my hair up and walked out to the garden in my B day suit only to find my 10′ diameter spot dry!!! AAAHHHHH! I was almost in tears, I went to the house and explained to him the delema and he said he could get the loader out and dig and also add water from the well point, I thought my hero! He went out and I stayed and made some egg salad for lunch, While making lunch I thought he needs a reward! So I did my hair, threw on some lipstick, and put some baby oil on for an all out shine! I thought he is probably going to faint! He was just driving back from the mud hole in our back yard when I came stepping out of the house! Nude,Oiled, hair down, the only thing I had on was my tan sunglasses, I also had a cigarette (not to important), but that was it. He stepped from his tractor and said WOW that was tough, great your here, could you come try it out! I thought WTF, we got to the mud hole and he did a great job but!!! He asked if I wanted to try it out but I thought and asked him if he wanted to have some fun before I do?No I am to tired, besides that stuff kind of smells??? I thought fine, I slowly stepped in the brown and black mess sinking up to my knee, he said the middle should be deep enough, sure enough I worked my way to the center and I was now up to my armpits, again asked him to join me , he responded no thanks, see you in a couple!!!!

California Grilled Veggie Sandwich

“I came up with this recipe to entertain friends. Since I am a semi-vegetarian and love to BBQ, I am always inventing something new. The first time I made this, my meat-lover friends raved about this dish! I prefer mesquite coals over gas barbeques…however, either works fine.”

Original recipe yield: 4 servings.
Prep Time:30 MinutesCook Time:20 MinutesReady In:50 MinutesServings:4

INGREDIENTS:

1/4 cup mayonnaise
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/8 cup olive oil
1 cup sliced red bell peppers
1 small zucchini, sliced
1 red onion, sliced
1 small yellow squash, sliced
2 (4-x6-inch) focaccia bread pieces, split horizontally
1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese

DIRECTIONS:

In a bowl, mix the mayonnaise, minced garlic, and lemon juice. Set aside in the refrigerator.
Preheat the grill for high heat.
Brush vegetables with olive oil on each side. Brush grate with oil. Place bell peppers and zucchini closest to the middle of the grill, and set onion and squash pieces around them. Cook for about 3 minutes, turn, and cook for another 3 minutes. The peppers may take a bit longer. Remove from grill, and set aside.
Spread some of the mayonnaise mixture on the cut sides of the bread, and sprinkle each one with feta cheese. Place on the grill cheese side up, and cover with lid for 2 to 3 minutes. This will warm the bread, and slightly melt the cheese. Watch carefully so the bottoms don’t burn. Remove from grill, and layer the with vegetables. Enjoy as open faced grilled sandwiches.

Lizzie asks…

Can you paint a small statue to make it safe for a fresh water aquarium?

Im looking to purchase a gargoyle for my fish tank for my frontosa’s. I dont want any of the cheap pet store ones, so I want to purchase a garden gargoyle or something. Is there anything I can do to make it nontoxic or paint it with a protectant so that its safe to put in my fish tank? Or should I look for a certain kind of material that the statues made of? Help please. 🙂

GardenersCardiff answers:

The paint would have to be the correct type. Commercially made items would be painted with a marine epoxy or model hobby epoxy paint which needs to cure for a minimum of two weeks before use in the tank.
If the item is not inert you are risking problems, even if sealed with the correct paint.

I would stick as much as possible to plastic, but terracotta and most stone is great as well.

Chances are if you get it from a pond supply outlet it should be safe. Most of their stuff would be designed to go in pond water. I can’t say the same for a general garden center.

Whatever you buy think about your fish. It needs to be free of sharp edges (if you can’t run a piece of pantyhose over it without snagging don’t put it in the tank) and designed so your fish could never get trapped.

Please do not consider this as approval of your plan as it’s so easy to make a mistake. However if done right it sounds like it would be a fantastic effect.

Laura asks…

Does anyone know how to build a raised garden VERY SIMPLY?

Seems like only a box but I know there must be more to it.

GardenersCardiff answers:

I made them really easy by laying down six layers of newspaper, which kills the grass and weeds adding topsoil and decayed cow manure mixed up and piled on top of newspaper 5 or so inches deep top with mulch and plant away. It really works.

Joseph asks…

What caterpillar is similar to an armyworm?

I found a caterpillar in my garden and it looked like an armyworm and kept it as a pet and it has now made a cocoon that looks like an armyworm cocoon, but I was wondering if there was anything that was similar to the point where a person like me who knows close to nothing about bugs could mistake it?

GardenersCardiff answers:

Unless you get it to an entomologist at a nearby institution, then we may never know. Unless then it comes out of its cocoon. There are many pictures of army worm on the net so I think identification would be easier when the moth finally comes out.

Then at least you’d learn something or two about your cocoon. Could be useful in the future…

Good luck!
