John asks…

What could you do with a role of duck tape, a tube of super glue and a garden gnome?

GardenersCardiff answers:

Hang the gnome up with the duck tape then use the gnome as target practice by trying to squirting it with the superglue!!

Richard asks…

He was a bully/rapist. Now he is a cannabis dealer, my revenge plot.?

Well, before i begin let me tell you about this guy who came my school a while back.

Dylan, 3 years older than me, a year 11 pupil who felt the need to terrorize a year 8 student, new to he school.
I won’t go into detail, but i had accidentally opened the door and hit his toe in the toilette in school, and became a target for 2 years.
He would pick me up and put me up side down and push his private on my mouth, feel my butt, take pictures of my private when using school bathrooms, punch/kick/slap me in front of people. One day i decided it’s enough and told the teachers and my parents and i went to him in school infront of his friends and told them hes a peadophile, slapped his food out of his hands and stabbed him with a pair of siccors that wounded him. It felt good, but because of that he used it against me when we had to speak with the police and teachers/parents he denied everything and told them that I always hated him for calling me dumbo and they all bought it and thought i lied.. even my parents.
Well so he decides to follow me home after after-school-activities and cought up to me, he slid his hands into my boxers and felt my butt and testicles he tried making me touch him but i refused and he tore my shorts and did perverted things (not penetrate)

I told on him again and this time he got in trouble and some-how we didn’t go court i don’t remember this clearly.

REVENGE

So, as the title says, he know is a cannabis grower. I saw him one time and followed him home and actually SAW him selling and to confirm i got friends of friends to verify by buying bud of him which we then smoked and got baked, moving on. I don’t want to report him to the police, and do not tell me to do so. I want to take his cannabis cause that is most precious to him. I figured that i should go in all black on 2AM and break in, but i am 15 and i cant be out till 11.

So my other plan was, leave him a note! like on his door, saying something like
“Unless you leave a ounce of your best shit underneath your garden gnome for me to send someone to collect it, ill get the police to raid your house, you have 24hours to leave the ounce, in this amount of time you couldn’t move all your weed and plants. btw im watching you so if you act susipicous im calling the cops”

obviously i could improve this using a phone, or telling him that i have already called the cops and told them i know a massive drug house and that they already have the warrant to raid but need me to tell them the addrese.

bottom line, i want his bud.

Give me your craziest ideas of how to get it, and please guys take my question seriously. Im stoned as i am writing this so pardon me if anything is moving.
the first 2 answers are exactly what i do not want to hear, someone come up with a plan like the question asks thank you.

answer 1 and 2
Fuck you.

GardenersCardiff answers:

Ahaha “I figured that I should go in all black on 2AM and break in, but i am 15 and i cant be out till 11”. Dude, you are not prepared to do jack shit to this guy. If curfew deters you from revenge, then you are not the man for the job. And even if you were, you are just creating more problems for yourself by trying to get revenge – this will come back to bite you in the ass. He’s gonna know that you did it, and he’s going to come looking for you. Who knows – he could rape you! I would imagine that this would be just cause for him to straight-up butt-rape you!

If I were in your position, I would find out who his bud source is, buy an ounce from his source (or from a source with better bud), and take all of this bully’s customers. That way, the bully still has his weed and dignity, but he can’t make any money (because you have his customers), and what’s he gonna do, call the cops on you? That would just make him a bee-itch. Worst case scenario, just make sure you’ve got concrete evidence that he’s selling too so that you have all of your ducks in a row in case he tries to screw you over. That way, if you go down, he goes down, too. And that is what is known as competitive marketing – not physical, still personal, yet equally satisfying as stabbing him in the hand with scissors, hopefully without all of the blood.

James asks…

Where can I find the following…?

A garden hose, a Spanish apple crusher, 19 blue garden gnomes, a shop sales assistant called Larry, 4 chin sponges and a full bag of cashew nuts? I need to know immediately 🙂

GardenersCardiff answers:

Hose- homedepot

George asks…

Are we supposed to be impressed that all these mindless movie stars and entertainers come out to support Obama?

I mean, not every freaking entertainer is Mayim Bialik genius, most of them are just garden variety people who happen to look good on TV.

WTF do I care if some entertainer supports Obama; they’re only where they are because WE PAID THEM!

GardenersCardiff answers:

Just wait until they figure out they are part of the 1% that will have to pay more taxes. They will probably seek special tax exemptions for entertainers.

Oh wait, they already do that…

Paul asks…

How do you garden in the desert?

I’m planning on moving from England to California later in the year, the long-term plan is to build a place out near Palm Springs – and I’d really like a garden, including fruit and vegetables. I know it’s possible from seeing others do it out there, but I’m not sure how…sure you have lots of sun, you can provide water and top soil…but I’m guessing actual gardening is going to differ VASTLY to gardening in England. Any tips, suggestions, and better still…any blog or page recommendations?

GardenersCardiff answers:

I just did a web search for “desert gardens”, here are the results.
and you’re correct about the major differences than English gardening.

Steven asks…

What are some of the easiet ways to start living with ZERO IMPACT?

Hello. The other day I found No Impact Man’s blog which was greatly inspiring. But… it left me thinking “But where do I start? How did YOU start?”
Does anyone have some suggestions as to where you begin changing you life to no trash and no negative impact? I know it will be difficult (like giving up the car. I want too, but I’m not there yet) but I’m always looking out for those simple changes one can make to their life.
Thus far I’ll put my two bits in. I save all plastic bottles, two liters and 1 gallons, mostly for drip irigation. I’ve switched to plastic washable containers to pack lunch in so no more throw away sandwich baggies or zip lock bags. I’ve put most of my electronics on power strips or switched outlets AND even more important to me have inspired my wife to take part in all this. I’m sure I’m doing more (I hope) but thats all that comes to mind. Thanks!

GardenersCardiff answers:

Great Job! Here are a few things that I’ve done around my home:

Re-use “grey water”. “Grey Water” is water that you have already used for something. You can re-use it by watering plants with it, washing dishes with it or putting it in your toilet tank to flush the toilet with. This means that LESS ENERGY and RESOURCES are used to “purify” water to drinking quality which you don’t intend to drink. Europeans often re-use water.
1.) Attach a garden hose to the washing machine drain. Run the other end of the garden hose out to the flower, vegetable garden or lawn. I use biodegradable soap and when I wash my clothes the water goes right out the hose and does “double duty” by watering my gardens or lawn. The plants appreciate the extra dirt and fertilizer they get from washing machine water, and it reduces the amount of “drinkable water” that I use to water plants. You can do the same thing with water you used to wash dishes with.
2.) Collect rainwater and use it to water outdoors by putting a large plastic trashcan under your downspouts. Drill a hole on the bottom and attach an “off/on” spigot. Attach a garden hose to the spigot. When its been dry for a few days and you need to water, use the rainwater you collected. To prevent mosquito growth, put a couple “feeder goldfish” in the rain barrels to eat the mosquito larvae! To prevent leaves from getting into the water, put a piece of window screen over the top!

3.) Recycle everything: I throw away very little trash compared to my neighbors because I separate ALL recycleables, and I use containers that I wash and reuse again and again. I also tend not to buy a lot of things, and when I do, they are from second hand stores.

4.) Compost everything else: I put all my garden weeds, coffee grounds, tea bags, egg shells, vegetable scraps, etc. Into a compost bin I built out of 5 old wooden pallets. I then take compost out of the bin and use it on my gardens, houseplants or lawn.

5.) Garden: I grow a big vegetable garden in my back yard in the middle of the city. The more food I can produce myself, the less chemicals are used by big companies to produce what I eat, the less packaging will be wasted, and the safer my food is.

6.) Buy eggs and meat from family farms: I have friends who live in the country on a small farm. They grow their own pigs, chickens, turkeys, goats, etc. I know they don’t use a lot of chemicals to grow their meat, and I know the animals are treated well. I prefer to buy meat that they raise and butcher at home than from the supermarket. It supports their family, is cheaper than storebought, is better for the environment and is healthier for me to eat.

Donna asks…

What is your opinion of the Royal Empress Tree?

I have ordered one from a gardening magazine, but now im afraid to plant it !! I have heard very conflicting opinions online about it and wanted to know if anyone here has had any personal experience with one. Some say it depends on the area where you live , well i live in Ohio , and i have no clue haha.
oh and people say that it is a nuisance and a very invasive tree, and alot of times can end up just looking .. crappy ( for lack of a better word )

GardenersCardiff answers:

Many States have it listed as an invasive weed. So I have a bad opinion of it. I think it is just something that got used because it was so plentiful. Maybe you can grow it without proplems. Call you local Ag Extension office. The State University usually has good info.

But they are s’posed to be pretty. Just grow too fast and have too much seedlig success.

Sandra asks…

Where can I find ‘beneficial nematodes’ that go in the garden hose to rid Fleas.?

I read in the answers to someone elses flea question that someone used beneficial nematodes that went in the garden hose, they said they baught it from a gardening magazine, I have done a google search and have found nothing. If someone could advise me of what magazine or company, anything would be great.
These fleas are driving me nuts.

GardenersCardiff answers:

I googled “flea and nematodes” and got this:
http://www.gardensalive.com/product.asp?pn=2779&sid=100308&eid=&bhcd2=1200521529

EDIT: beneficial nematodes certianly do work to eliminate fleas! They are just more expensive and have to be replenished fairly often.

You may also want to look into a product called Over n Out ant killer. It contains Fipronil (same active ingredient in Frontline) and can be purchased at lawn and garden stores (home depot, lowes, ect).

When is the right time to trim trellis roses?

I think I should have cut the rose bush (trellis) during the winter months but I failed to do so. Now I need to find out when I can trim this bush.

GardenersCardiff answers:

A rose on a trellis?… Must be a climbing rose?… If so, it doesn’t get pruned until after it is done blooming…

Betty asks…

How to trim a climbing rose bush?

I have had it for 3 years. I have never done anything with it I always thought you just let it do what it wants. I planted it by lattice it that helps. It was my first rose ever and it was a gift from my husband. I want to keep it for that reason plus I love it to death and I want to trim it back down and start over right this time because the bottom half has no leaves or roses so something isn’t right. Is that possible or should I start over with a new bush?

GardenersCardiff answers:

Don’t do anything till they are dorment read up on what to do at that time on links don’t replace.
As they are very long lived also the canes are meant to be spread horozantally and the side shoots from there have the flowers its is normal for bare branches lower down i think you might not be spreading canes sideways good luck they are very forgiving plants.

George asks…

There is a special wrench to unscrew round hose fittings, what is it called?

It is more rounded than a normal wrench to avoid stripping the end. I am talking about a normal garden hose spigot here. Any thoughts?

GardenersCardiff answers:

If you are dealing with Garden Hose Thread Fittings, which seal on a gasket they should be relatively easy to unscrew. UNLESS they are made of dissimilar metals and have been in contact long enough (many months) to develop “Dielectric Corrosion” effectively fusing the two together.

If dielectric corrosion has occurred some discoloration (often White) will be seen between the threads, and it will take significant effort to break them free. That effort might damage or destroy the fitting, depending on the extent of the corrosion.

My suggestion is to get some “Liquid Wrench” or other Penetrating Thread Lubricant, and follow the directions to free up the connection prior to applying extensive pressure or torque.

A “Strap Wrench” is often used to tighten round pipes where damage to the pipe is not an option.
The Leather Strap wraps around the pipe providing virtual 360 degree contact.

A “Chain Wrench” would provide more positive grip, but is more likely to do damage.

Garden hose with lead pose a risk to washing children’s toys?

I just read this article: http://www.mnn.com/your-home/organic-farming-gardening/blogs/lead-in-your-garden-hose-study-finds-high-levels-of-toxic-

I`m not sure if my garden hose has lead, but it is pretty likely considering this article.

I am going to get a drink-safe hose soon, but I am worried about all the times I washed my kids bikes and outdoor toys with this hose. And then my kids touched them. Would this have posed a risk?
All the info I have seen says to wash hands after handling hose and do not drink from hose. But I can`t find any information about toys that are washed with the hose or outdoor pools filled with the hose.

GardenersCardiff answers:

Ask you kids dr. About this. You can have them lead tested. It is a simple blood test to determine their lead level.

Another blonde joke……..

The Blonde Bride’s Kitchen Diary

Monday:
It’s fun to cook for Tom. Today I made angel food cake. The recipe said beat 12 eggs separately. The neighbors loaned me the extra bowls.

Tuesday:
Tom wanted fruit salad for supper. The recipe said serve without dressing. What a surprise when Tom brought a friend home to dinner and they found me naked!

Wednesday:
A good day for rice. The recipe said wash thoroughly before steaming the rice so I took a bath. Can’t say it helped the rice.

Thursday:
Tried a new salad recipe. It said “prepare ingredients; lay on a bed of lettuce one hour before serving.” Tom asked why I was rolling around the garden.

Friday:
Found easy recipe for cookies that said “put the ingredients in a bowl and beat it.” Something went wrong. When I got home, everything was just as I left it.

Saturday:
Tom went shopping today, brought home a chicken, and asked me to dress it for Sunday. I didn’t have any clothes that fit it. For some reason, Tom keeps counting to ten.

Sunday: Tom’s folks came to dinner. I wanted to serve roast but all I had was hamburger. Suddenly, I had a flash of genius. I put the hamburger in the oven and set the controls for roast. How disappointing. When it came out, it was still hamburger!

Goodnight, dear diary. Tomorrow I’m gonna buy a bigger oven so I can fix Tom a chocolate moose!.

Carole talks about Chanelle and Ziggy so why was she so one sided when Chanelle was in the house?

Carole has told Liam and Brian what she really thinks about Chanelle and Ziggy’s relationship.
Sitting in the garden as Liam made “rollies”, the sexual health worker told them: “He still cares about her. It’s a very difficult environment. I’ve said it to him – I don’t think they would have a very good relationship outside to be honest.
“I think there’s different levels of maturity and experience for one, I think that in here it’s very easy to actually feel quite strongly about people, [feelings] which then don’t get transferred onto the outside. By his own admission, he’s not learned from being with her.”
Speaking about their final argument, she revealed: “I was sitting in the diary room listening to them go off outside. My initial reaction was to come out, but i stayed inside. I was very depressed, I was saying to them [Big Brother] ‘can you hear this, you’ve got to deal with it!’. I said to them, I think I’d better leave here and let her come in, she needs to‘. BB said ‘no.
Afrowoman I think you may have a point!
Tatty is that what she said seems she doesn’t like anyone near ‘her boys’ god help anyone who marry’s her kids!!(real ones that is) lol
dR bad it was ok her having her opinion she’s entitled to it, it was the way an older woman (who is always telling others what’s exceptable) showed this to a young girl who by the way as the right to make a bad judgement! (ok it’s a bit much when the whole of us are watching lol)

Can vinyl tubes / hoses be used as water lines ?

I got something I want to put in my room but I need an easy way to add a water line that can be manipulated(moved around walls and corners). So ya can I use vinyl tubing / hoses as water lines ?

Ps; it wont be used as drinking water, its actually going to be used as a water line for one of those self flushing self cleaning litter boxes.

Also, I guess the only concern would with this would be water pressure but the tubing I would want to use is about the size / thickness of a garden hoses as far as I can tell. But since vinyl tubing and garden hoses are made with different methods / materials the vinyl tubing might not hold up as well or whatever. Hence me asking this annoying but lengthy question, Ty.
Well, what I’m talking about is that clear vinyl tubib. Like whats used for aquarium air pumps but much larger in diameter.
@igen

No my only option is running it through some holes in the wall that I drilled. I suppose what I could do if all else fails is just use a garden hose the length of what I need it to be and just cut it to length, snake it through the holes and then re-attach the end pieces.

GardenersCardiff answers:

I have a 1/4″ vinyl water line that runs to my refrigerator’s ice maker. I think if you need something the diameter of a garden hose, I’d be a little more concerned about the tube springing a leak. You’re probably better off with PVC. How far away is the water pipe? Can you run the new water line through the basement or ceiling?

Mark asks…

What is the easiest way to dig up dirt for a water garden?

I have been digging a hole in my yard for a water garden that I am going to construct, but the soil is rock hard and in-organic and because of the hole’s location in between two huge trees there are thousands of roots from small grass roots to huge 6″ thick or bigger roots from the trees. I’ve been using a hoe to loosen the dirt for shoveling and to cut the roots, but it’s becoming an extreme physically enduring project. Are there any other low-budget methods to get a hole dug? Remember, I need to dig a hole to match my measurements and designs for a water garden, not just a big hole.

Note: A water garden, in my case, is a small man-made pond with fish, aquatic plants, frogs, etc.

How do I make corn whiskey without a still?

I want to surprise my boyfriend with a jar a corn whiskey that I’ve made myself. But I don’t have a still. Is there any way to destill whiskey in the kitchen or a way to make a very very simplified still? I’ve thought about two pressure cookers and a cut off garden hose. There’s actually quite a bit of work involved.

Maria asks…

What are some gardening tools and material that you need to grow plants?

What are the tools and materials used for, what are they made of, and why?

GardenersCardiff answers:

Hi!

In addition to tools listed from other user, you can consider a lot af other tools. You can take a look directly on Hydroponics website, in the Manual section you can find also a lot of tips about gardening.

Good luck!

Sandy asks…

Whats the difference between gardening tools and gardening equipment??

Please help me with this, i also need a list of gardening equipment..or where i can find them..

GardenersCardiff answers:

I would call a hoe, a shovel, a rake a gardening tool. A tiller, a mulcher, garden hose would ge gardening equipment. All of these can be found at any hardware store, most nurseries or WalMart, Sears, etc

Betty asks…

What gardening tools will I need?

Assume that I know nothing…
If I am creating flower/shrub beds in a new yard what tools will I need to buy to plant and maintain them? (A roto-tiller to begin – got it!) If you want to share any advice or tips, please do!
Please include any “optional” tools that you have found helpful!

Beyond the usual rake (bow rake or regular) and full-sized shovel, You’ll need a few hand-sized tools. There are 2 types of hand shovels that are best–a regular shovel and a trowel, which is thinner and is a better size to plant small plants with. I also have a great tool that I picked up a few years ago. It looks like the back side of an pickax (like a thin hand-held hoe) on one side, and a small rake on the other. It can even tear up sod or roots if you chop with it.

Linda asks…

Good Recipe for easy home made pasta sace??

i have a few cans of diced tomatoes and an herb garden, so i think i want to make a pasta sauce, but ive never made one from scratch.. any suggestions for recipeis or any tips? HELP!?!

GardenersCardiff answers:

Take 4 cans of diced tomatoes (or less, depending on batch size) I like to pulverize them a little to help break them down but i usually use whole tomatoes. Anywho, chop some garlic and an onion. Take a big pan and saute the garlic and onion in olive oil, add a little redpepper flakes. When the onion turns translucent add the tomatoes. Do not burn the garlic!!! I always add a pinch of sugar and a dash of vinegar to bring out the flavors. Cook for as long as you can, the longer the better. SEason with salt and pepper, and add the herbs like basil and parsley at the last few minutes. It’s a delicious simple recipe, it’s excellent with chicken parmesean!

Steven asks…

I am looking for this tool for digging holes that made it easy.?

This metal tool is T shaped and the garden hose attached to one side of the top of the T. Then when you squeeze the trigger, water shoots out of the bottom of the T. When it is pushed into the ground, it injects water and basically flushes out a hole. I had one that eventually wore out and have not been able to find another one. Can anyone tell me where to find one here in the midwest? Thanks for your time and have a great weekend!

GardenersCardiff answers:

If you are looking for something that is NOT pressurized beyond the normal household water pressure in the garden hose then what you are looking for may be a “ROOT FEEDER” these are used to get water and nutrients down to the root zone of bushes and trees.

My father had one years ago, that had a space for fetilizer tablets to be inserted so that they dissolved into the water as the tree roots were watered.

They were not designed to “dig holes” for other purposes, but they did soak the ground and shoot the water in a concentrated stream that allowed you to slowly (eventually if the ground was hard) push it down into the ground to root level.

Here are some I found online, (I do NOT know anythig about them.)

Professional ROSS® Root Feeder

My guess is that any larger Garden supply, or larger Hardware supply, like Lowes, will have these.
