Care to assist a neophyte gardener?
Inspired by a spate of Salon blogs on Victory Gardens, I am moved to undertake pot gardening in handsome containers 18″ – 20″ tall, six to eight in number, enjoying direct sunlight until about noon or 1:00 o’clock. The plants will not only provide a plethora of fresh vegetables but should provide a decorative screen about 4′ – 5′ high. Ground level items can be worked at a different location. Tomatoes are suitable, as is corn. Do sweet peppers reach this size? Can snow peas be trained to this pattern? How about string beans?
This should give a general idea of what I have in mind. Do any of you seasoned planters have suggestions or ideas? Your help will be appreciated.

Agree with Heart. Suggest you use 7-10 gallon size containers, larger if you can find them. Nurseries usually sell their “used” containers inexpensively.
Corn isn’t suited for containers, needs to be planted in the ground, at least 4 rows to ensure pollenation.
Peas will work, you’ll need a trellis or string for them to climb.
Tomatoes will need some type of support also – choose indeterminant types for fruit all season (determinants only bear once.)
Peppers and beans will bush, might get almost tall enough for you.

What is the difference between “sexy” and “beautiful”? Ok… The reason i’m asking.. lol =P An exboyfriend recently said hello to me, we dated years ago. In one of my recent blogs, I mentioned gardening.. lol He commented on blog, and said this:
“U changed a lot from the sexy girl I knew back in the day. Now u r a beautifull Gardener lol”.
How would you take that, I mean, what would that mean to you if you had an ex say that to you? Just curious. lol
Thanks for your answers – I’m not sure how he meant it. lol He could have meant that I have matured, I guess. m
But, I wondered if he was saying i’m no longer “sexy”, or just what? lol I don’t know.
