Since you were snooping, it might not be best to tell them nor do you seem to have a reason to tell them anyway other than to alert them of your confusion of their interests…which, in an extreme case, could result in you being shot.

Most Efficient Way to Growing Mushrooms?

I would like to start growing my own mushrooms, but I’m torn between growing indoor or outdoor. I live on a 120 acre farm that is home to a herd of 30-40 Texas Long Horn Cows. Now I have plenty of room to dig a bed and lay down some wood chips and grow them that way. I have a pressure cooker so I could do the whole cake process. I have access to hundreds of pounds of fresh to dried out cow manure, my resources are plentiful. So my question is, what should I do if I want to grow the following shroomz:

-Oyster
-Shitaky
-Portabella
-Penis Envy
-Psilocybe Azurescens

Help with growing these the most efficient way! Thank you very much!

What can I do about my neighbors throwing harmful items at my dogs?

They’ve thrown cans, lighters, bottle caps, cigarette buds, toys, liter bottle, and a garden tool. At first I thought it was the kids until the cigarette buds and the lighters. At this point I’m concerned for my dogs safety because they chew anything they see.

How do I get rid of the white colored people outside?

I’m closing my windows and locking my doors, I heard white people were dangerous and they sell crack, rob stores, and speak strange reverse-ebonics. Why can’t we all look up to black people? They are all outstanding law-abiding citizens, most have no criminal record, set good examples, and are harmless. Should I call the police on these white troublemakers? (One of them has gardening tools on my black neighbor’s garden, I assume he’s stealing it!)

Is a goat a viable substitute to a lawnmower?

Serious answers only please. We have just moved to a very rural setting with a fair sized secured garden. I suffer from carpal tunnel and can no longer work with motorised garden tools. Would a goat do as good a job as the lawnmower in the long run?

No a goat is no use for that job. They are browsers not grazers, which means your trees, shrubs and plants will be massacred.
What you want is a sheep which grazes and will keep a good sized lawn short and fertilised!

What if we applied the same logic to the food shortage as we do to oil drilling?

I mean we just can’t GROW our way out of a food shortage by producing more food can we? The nerve of these starving people! Why don’t they just conserve the food that they have or look for alternative sources of food – why are they so dependant on food anyway? Growing their own food to increase the food supply is just ABSURD! ABSURD I tell you!!

Yes,I have but it truly isn’t feasible some folks can live in isolation and others can not,especially within the family but we all dream of a place where the tiny stresses could be forgot about,I deal with that as back to nature camping,its called bare bones,you take only what is truly necessary,last year took a radio and never turned it on! I do this twice a year 10 days to 14 days at a time am looking to make it 3 weeks this year but my gardening gets in the way lol,my one sanity keeping thing and even it stops my fun.So like so many others we can dream .If you have never camped why don’t you give it a try?Hardest thing is keeping ice in 90* heat,other than that its a most relaxing and enjoyable past time.

The “safe food bill” was going to make it illegal to share the food from your own garden with other people.

There are laws in Los Angeles that prevents sharing foods in certain circumstances. Some to prevent the spread of pest, but others is to protect business or heighborhoods from chage. The safe food bill won’t touch that though.

i think that you should start a mini vegetable and/or fruit garden thatll keep you busy ! Um maybe you could plant peas,strawberries,pumpkin,squash,carrots,lettuce etc. (maybe near a shady spot and he other half in a sunny spot)
and maybe if you like it you can decide to make youre garden Bigger

Is it a good thing to grow your own fruit/vegetables?

My dad stopped growing our vegetable garden when I was young and never explained why. I’d like to see if anybody out there can give some suggestions on how to get started and if it would be reasonable to do.

Of course it’s a good thing! Just a bit of work. Till the land with a good compost to prepare the soil before planting. Start out with things like tomatoes, green peppers, potatoes, carrots, green beans,lettuce, cucumbers – anything that you like to eat really. I find corn to be hard to grow, since I am limited on space and you need it to be several rows thick.

i am a complete novice but love the idea but wouldn’t know where to start! how do i prepare the soil if i even need to?

The easiest and most successful method is: http://www.squarefootgardening.com/ but it can be costly up front. Be sure you till the soil deep and that the garden patch gets at least 8 hours of sunlight daily. Starting from seed it difficult for certain crops, plants are stronger and hold up better to transplanting. I would suggest going to the library and checking a couple of book on the subject. Is it healthier to grow your own food?

Such as your own Vegetables like, tomatoes, lettuce, spinach, squash, onions, etc.
And to get your milk, eggs, & meat from your own cows and chicken. (if you own some.)
We already own a cow and chicken farm…but I was wondering if maybe I should make a garden with fruits and veggies. But if home grown foods aren’t much better than store bought..then I don’t want to go through the trouble.

Is it better for maintaining a healthy weight?

It’s absolutely healthier to grow your own food. The produce you see in supermarkets may look fresh, but a lot of it has gone through days and sometimes thousands of miles of travel after being plucked semi-raw from the plants or trees (so that it would not spoil en route). A lot of nutrients are lost along the way due to heat, improper storage, too much handling, etc.

When you grow your own produce, you harvest it and eat it right there and then. Much, much more nutritious and tasty.Plus, you save money, as someone else noted.
