mushroom growing kit – gardenerscardiff.co.uk http://gardenerscardiff.co.uk For the Best Gardeners in the Cardiff Area Sun, 01 Feb 2015 20:05:02 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=5.0.21 Your Questions About Gardening http://gardenerscardiff.co.uk/your-questions-about-gardening-936/ http://gardenerscardiff.co.uk/your-questions-about-gardening-936/#respond Sun, 05 Oct 2014 20:05:02 +0000 http://gardenerscardiff.co.uk/your-questions-about-gardening-936/

Laura asks…

tell about mushroom growing method specifically countercap ones?

GardenersCardiff answers:

Gourmet mushrooms are expensive to buy from the grocery store, but growing your own is much less costly. Mushroom kits come with small containers and can fit on almost any countertop. Inside each container is a small amount of compressed sawdust or a mulch-style substance that feeds the mushrooms. This makes countertop mushroom growing a simple task, even for those without any previous gardening experience.

Things You’ll Need:

Mushroom growing kit
Bowl
Distilled water
Heating pad

1 Fill a bowl with distilled water. When you read the instructions for your kit, you should find that it requires nonchlorinated water. Tap water has a certain amount of chlorine and may damage the mushrooms. Distilled water doesn’t contain the same chlorine.

2 Soak the mulch or sawdust tablets in the water for at least three hours. Turn the tablets at least once while soaking, which helps the water reach all areas of the tablets. The tablets absorb the water and help the mushrooms become active and start spawning.

3 Store the tablets in a dark spot on your countertops. The mushrooms flourish in the dark and don’t require sunlight the way other plants and vegetables do. A breadbox or similar container that blocks out the sun is the right size for mushrooms.

4 Keep the temperature at 75 degrees Fahrenheit. Place a heating pad underneath the mushrooms, which helps you regulate the temperature. Mushrooms grow best at temperatures of 60 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit. Colder temperatures can actually freeze the mushrooms and kill the fungi, while warmer temperatures also kill the mushrooms.

5 Remove the mushrooms from the tablets when the fungi reaches the appropriate size for your needs. Place the tablets back in the dark spot. Within a few days to a few weeks, the mushrooms will begin to produce spores and grow again. You should get several harvests from each kit before the mushrooms stop growing and reproducing. Toss the tablets in your compost heap once the mushrooms stop growing.

David asks…

Can i grow my own shrooms (Psilocybin Mushrooms)? If yes, how?

GardenersCardiff answers:

Legally? NO….. However, you just need to read up on it, there is soooo much information on the internet just engine search it. But you have to be VERY VERY VERY careful.. Because it is a VEERY delicate process, and letting them get any mold on them can actually kill you. Its a hard science to learn and to trust yourself with. You have to usually buy spores of the internet unless you know someone who is growing them, you can shake off their spores.. But otherwise, they typically come in a syringe full of water. Just engine search it. Heck its probbaly on you tube how to do it.

Sharon asks…

how to grow mushroom?

GardenersCardiff answers:

Try googling the web for mushroom growing kits. They require very specific conditions for growing, but there are kits available, with instructions, for homeowners who want to try growing their own. Good luck!

Paul asks…

Magic mushrooms growing kits?

What I wanna know is are these illegal or not?! Also is it easy to grow your own magic mushrooms? where would you recommend I buy a kit from?
To add, I live in the UK. I’ve seen kits for sale on the net, but this confuses me if they’re supposed to be illegal?!

GardenersCardiff answers:

Psylocibin mushroom spores are legal to purchase in every state except California, Georgia, and Idaho. They can be somewhat tricky to grow, and can become deadly if there is any contamination during growth. I recommend going to the following site: http://www.erowid.org/plants/mushrooms/mushrooms.shtml

James asks…

grow your own mushrooms?

GardenersCardiff answers:

I’m trying to grow oyster mushrooms right now. I’ve not had luck as of yet but I understand that it can require a lot of waiting. I bought a kit that consists of a small log with holes drilled into it. The holes filled with spores packed into what appears to be sawdust. I bought it at my local co-op about four months ago and I’m still waiting for signs of life.

I’ve been told by someone that grows mushrooms as a hobby that I will probably have better luck ordering kits from Fungi Perfecti. Http://www.fungi.com/

Susan asks…

how do you grow your own magic mushrooms?

wondering and thanks

GardenersCardiff answers:

Get a mushroom growing kit and some magic mushrooms. Use the magic mushrooms as the spores and keep moist. Mushrooms don’t need light to grow and will grow in your cupboard.
