Who likes gardening and houseplants?
What’s your favorite thing to grow in your garden? What’s your favorite houseplant?

I love gardening, indoor and outdoor. I don’t care for the heat so in the hot months I garden outdoors very early or some times very late. I have been known to put flood lights on so I can do some gardening in the cool of the evening. This fall I’m enrolling in a master gardening class so I can do an even better job. I read something interesting about natural eco systems which has somewhat changed my style of gardening. There are less destructive insects in a natural forest because of the plant diversity. It seems that some plants actually attract beneficial insects which protect the area from those greedy flower and plant eating bugs. Lots more to know I’m sure. I can’t wait for each day to see how my plants are doing and love taking care of them. Gardening is an act of faith. You put in a seed or a little plant and hope and pray that your work turns out well.

Take a good look at what you have available, and try and utilise that. I think gardens should develope naturally,ie. You alter to suit your own ideas, thoughts etc.

Pests in garden?
This is my first year gardening. I started to late.
I turned my flower bed into a veggie garden for the time being.
I have loads of ants in my garden and there eating some of my plants any ideas?

I, too, was late in starting my garden this year, as we just moved to this house, and I’m going to try for a fall veggie garden. I know that if I start preparing the beds now, my spring garden will be great! As will yours…
As for ants, try an assortment of natural remedies before you go chemical, if you can. Here is a link that has just gobs of ideas.

The best way I’ve found is to follow the Texas Two-Step method. No, it’s not a dance step, but something the Texas A&M came up with…an organic way of ridding your yard/lawn/garden of ants. You start with Green Light Fire Ant Killer with Spinosad, and follow up with Orange Guard.
