Donna asks…
Finding tobacco seed is a little hard, but growing it is easy. The tough part is curing it! Do you hava any tips on ageing, storing, curing, or fermenting your own tobacco?
Thanks,

In late summer when the tobacco starts to turn yellow cut the stalk about 2-3 inches above the ground…run a string through it providing you dont have alot of plants and hang it upside down in an outbuilding or barn so that none of it touches the ground..within 2-3 mos it will all be brown and ready for whatever you are going to use it for…i live in kentucky and we used to be known as the tobacco capitol…..if you have quite a few plants you can use what we call tobacco sticks..they are about 4 ft long..slightly pointed on the ends and while men are cutting tobacco a spear is put over each stick on one end and the other end is jabbed into the ground to “spear” the tobacco so it can hang from the sticks in a barn until ready to strip. You can usually get 5-7 plants on one stick depending on their size..dont want to crowd them to much as they need air to cure. Also after stripping the leaves from the plant the stalk can be thrown on the ground..this return nutrients to the soil..farmers here spread them over their fields and they are usually gone within a few months
hope this helps
Thomas asks…
when you grow your own tobacco
Different varieties are used for different purposes. Some are used in cigars, some are used for cigarettes and some are used for pipe smoking. Some are multi-use varieties and can be used in more than one application. Between these two sites you can probably find all the info you need, including links to forums where you can talk to those who have been growing tobacco for many years:

Good luck and enjoy!

Sure some people would grow it themselves, you could grow your own tobacco, and make your own beer and alcohol too, but most prefer to just buy it. Not only that it also has millions of other uses from paper, clothing, and is probably best plant to use as a biofuel. The current policies are based upon ignorance, create criminals, crime, and a huge illegal blackmarket. So is Obama for real change or is he just another politician supporting the status quo?
Osama Yomama, what are you worried about illegals taking your crappy job for? Didn’t you ever want to do anything with your life beyond picking fruit?
Plenty. Imagine how much the government could make if they taxed it, as they do with liquor and tobacco? Even if it was classified as a controlled substance, available only by prescription, the revenue would still be beneficial.
Marijuana prohibition is an out-dated policy based on 1960’s propaganda and fear-mongering. For Christ’s sake, pot is safer than alcohol, yet you don’t see liquor prohibition coming back.
