And what kind of benefits do they get besides free travel? Health insurance, 401(k), what? Are they unionized? If I were 3 feet shorter, could I be one? I mean, I can grow a beard and everything . . .
Just asking.
Oh yeah, and are they discriminatory? I’ve never seen a female garden gnome on any Travelocity commercials. Perhaps the female garden gnome population can bring a class-action lawsuit.
Thanks all!
I think there are a lot, like oompa loompas.
Linda asks…
Is it true that anytime a Brit puts a garden gnome in his well cared-for garden, he is making an ironic statement? What about the more common folk? Could it be that they really think that these gnomes are in good taste? For that matter, what of the upper-uppers? If the Duke of Devonshire puts up a garden gnome, can one presume that he has no care in the world as to whether it’s in fashion, or would he only put it up to be ironic?
I think it is not correct, most of garden gnomes are ironic gnomes but all gnomes are not ironic. It depends on classes .

They are driving me nuts and I can’t keep anything in my garden. Except weeds. For some reason they don’t eat weeds.
I have to grow my own veggies because of chemical allergies. but I can’t with these darn varmints around. Please help me.
How do golf courses get rid of them?
If you can tolerate the odor, moth balls are good for keeping “critters” out of your garden. The veggies don’t take up the chemicals, and the animals can’t deal with the smell.

If your a minor and your caught growing marijuana whats the worst that can happen?
Whose ever property you grow it on that is an adult they can and will be arrested and possibly charged with intent to sell. Anyone growing pot is going to be considered as a possible DEALER of pot which is a more serious charge than just being caught with a small amount in your pockets.
So you and your parents or whomever’s property you use will be in SERIOUS legal trouble (potential large fines and jail time) if caught growing pot. So do NOT grow pot! It is an illegal substance in all US states and the states that have it legal are only for medical purposes and those people can’t grow their own pot!
William asks…
I mean I imagine if I’m a pot smoker who enjoys an eight ball of cocaine on the weekend as well, and I find out now I can grow my own pot in my free time. Won’t that mean that extra cash I’d use to have to buy less weed for I can now have plenty of weed and give all of my money to the cartels for a bunch of coke? Thus putting more money in the cartels pockets?
That might be true. But even that wouldn’t be a positive. If you have $100 dollars for drugs and now you get weed for free and still spend the $100 dollars on a different drug you haven’t given the cartels any extra money.
Moreover if you usually spend $100 dollars on drugs and now spend $0, you most certainly are hurting the cartels.

Hoarding canned goods? Growing you own food stuffs and canning? Hunting/Fishing? America is not prepared for a food shortage. People in the high rise apartments in the urban areas may well starve. The new currency will be growable land
I’m not doing anything drastic like hoarding food (maybe I should). But I am “being careful” how I spend my money. I am foregoing a lot of frivolous purchases and focusing on getting my house paid off, which is my only debt. If I can accomplish that over the next few years without incurring more debt or depleting my cash reserves, I think I’ll survive. Of course, we never know what tomorrow will bring.
Laura asks…
“Cultivators of the earth are the most virtuous and independent citizens.”
Do we all need to grow our own food to stay healthy?
You need to eat to survive, so if you can grow your own food, you do not have to depend on anyone.
No, we don’t have to grow our own food to stay healthy. It is more on having a healthy diet; knowing what, when, and how much to eat.

I want to start teaching the children about growing your own food. I live in NW uk and just wondered where do i start? how do i find allotments to rent etc?
Thankyou in advance
waiting for the council i’ll probably too old and my kids will be addicted to mcdonalds by the time they get their finger out.
Thanks everyone
Allotments are rented out by your local council, so get in touch with them. Your local council will have their phone numbers in the telephone directory going by different departments and such like. I don’t know what department allotments would come under but the local council should have a general enquiry number as well, so they would inform you.
And I hope you get your project going, it sounds like a good idea!

A few years back a female hummer came to my window feeder. In amazement, I watched as she had a baby on her back, while she fed. I had my camera handy, but could not get to the window carefully, before she took off. This would have made a fabulous picture. I’ve never seen any pics in garden magazines of this, and wondered if anyone else had ever seen a mama hummingbird take her baby for a ride.
sorry i believe i have entered this in the wrong category
Yes, I have and I DID get a picture….have a large zoom lens on my camera. Aren’t hummers the best fun to watch? I have 8 feeders in my yard.

I know someone who has had back surgery but loves to rake. I can’t find any bent handle yard leaf rakes anywhere, they’re supposed to take pressure off the back while raking. I’ve seen them in Better Homes and Garden Magazine but there wasn’t the option to purchase one. Please help.
We bought one about 5 years ago at Home Depot and we’ve never had to replace it! It was reasonably priced as I recall, and is really nice to use.
Good luck!

I have been designing home and garden products for eighteen years. My one of a kind products have been featured in the best home and garden magazine and some books. I already have some products in the marketplace but have many more projects that I am working on at this time. If you can help, please let me know.

I am just starting to grow my own mushrooms and i need help knowing what to look for to determine if theyre contamiated. some of my cakes are different colors then the others. and i have to throw them out if theyre contaminated. How do you tell?
Umm mycylium (the “roots”) should only be white – off white. Any other colors in there should be considered contamination (ie mold) and the cakes should be removed. If there are splotches of furry looking dufferent colored shyt then definitely discard. If theres funky smells, discard. You can try to salvage but success of these salvaged cakes is little to none. When it comes to shrooms, dont f around cuz bad shrooms can make u rly sick.if u have a microscope than u can look at the substrate under the microscope for contamination… But when innoculating you must make sure everything is clean (rubber gloves, spray glade or other disinfecting spray constantly, vaccuum so no dust, and no airflow are just SOME precautions). Be careful and happy growing!

I really want to grow my own magic mushrooms but I cant find any place online that sell the grow kits that will ship to the United States. Can someone help me out?
Not many places will ship, its a risky business, the good thing about magic mushrooms is that they don’t show up on a drug test, and drug dogs don’t sniff for em

Out Garden Centre has a blog http://www.gordonrigg-gardencentres.co.uk/blog/ which we started in the last month or so.
Love to know the sort of information that people have found useful for driving traffic to their blogs?
Should we use it to get lots of keywords into Google?
Having well-written, compelling content that is updated frequently is what drives traffic to your blog.
Search engine keywords really won’t have much effect, and often the handful of extra hits you get are not people who are interested in your subject anyway.

I dug out some old soil out of a container a few years ago and found a tiny skull. Living in the city, I assumed it was a rat skull. But, I love what this guy found in his garden while picking raspberries – http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/technology/2012/06/iowa-family-finds-mammoth-bones-in-backyard/ A mammoth bone! Have you found bones in your garden? Which kind?
When we moved into out house, wefound a whole cat in the garden, whilst flattening it out. We spoke to the neighbour about it, as we couldn’t make much sense from it, and the family who lived there before had had a daughter who had a cat, and they’d buried it when it died a couple of years before. It was slightly creepy, but in a sweet way:-)

Remember this guy who interrupted the President giving a statement at the White House Rose Garden?

I hadn’t hear about the Romney Aid but that reporter was rude to the President and looked like an azz doing it.
