Your Questions About Gardening

Susan asks…

Would This Persuade My Dad To Get Me A Dog?

Well ill say i want a dog beacause
. i miss fudge ( my dog that died ): )
. Enjoy walks
.All my friends have dogs.
.I Enjoy walking my friends dogs to place like the lido
.i really want a dog to play with when im bored.
.i will help with paying for food and will save up money.
.i will look after it as its a big pet and will be like another family .member

The other day i asked him if i could have a dog and he said it will poo everywhere in the garden, and he will be left too look after it and pay for its food.
Should i say i will train it to poo in one place of they garden so its easier to clean and i shall clean it myself, I will look after it as a i love dogs and when i was old enough i would take fudge (old dog) for walks but then he died cause he was so old, and i will try and help pay for food.
Also ill ask for this as an early birthday present.
Once i videoed my friends dog swimming and showed him and even though he doesn’t like dogs he liked this 1, and i asked if i could get 1 and he said he’ll see, then my sisters mentioned all the bad things like injections and all that and he said no ):

I have made a form, saying that he write what i need to do like tidy my room, and i right down that i will and sign it.
And that why he doesn’t want 1, and we will negotiate and then he sign it 🙂

So do you think this will work?
Any other things i could use?

GardenersCardiff answers:

It sounds like your dad is hesitant to get a dog because he’s worried that he’ll end up taking care of it. You need to prove to him that A) you’re responsible and that B) you wont get bored of the dog.

A way to prove this would be for you to keep your room tidy all of the time, do your homework every night, do your chores however often you’re supposed to, etc to prove that you are responsible. If he sees that you can handle everything that’s already on your plate, he will be more likely to give you yet another responsibility. And if you can keep up that behavior for a month or so, he’ll see that you’re really willing to put in the efforts necessary to owning a dog.

I would suggest that you start with that. You shouldn’t propose a form until you’ve already done that. Actions speak much louder than words.

As for your actual form, don’t write that all of your friends have dogs because that makes it seem like a trend, and don’t write that you want a dog to play with while you’re bored because that insinuates that you wont take care of it when you’re not bored. But I think the part of you paying for its food and looking after it like its a family member are good, and even that you miss your old dog.

Maybe then he’ll come around. 🙂 You’ll need to be patient. Try to see things from his point of view.

Also, are you sure you’re ready to have your own dog to take care of? You’ll need to pick up its droppings, feed it at least once a day, walk it preferably every day, train it to not do things like beg or be destructive (which is a lot of work and not very fun), have it groomed or wash it yourself, treat it with flea medicine and prevention… The list goes on! Make sure that you will be able to follow through with all of your promises.

John asks…

Muslims only: In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful?

Remain attached to the Quran. Nobody should surpass you in being intent on it, or more sincere in implementing it for God said in the Quran:

In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful

You are the best people raised for the good of mankind; you enjoin good and forbid evil and believe in Allah.

And hold fast, all together, to the rope of Allah and be not divided; and remember the favour of Allah which He bestowed upon you when you were enemies and He united your hearts in love, so that by His grace you became as brothers; and you were on the brink of a pit of fire and He saved you from it. Thus does Allah explain to you His commandments that you may be guided.

Surely, God has purchased of the believers their persons and their property in return for the heavenly Garden they shall have; they fight in the cause of God, and they slay and are slain – an unfailing promise that He has made binding on Himself in the Torah, and the Gospel, and the Qur’an. And who is more faithful to his promise than God? Rejoice, then, in your bargain which you have made with Him; and that is the mighty triumph.

Those, who love that indecency should spread among the believers, will have a painful punishment in this world and the Hereafter. And Allah knows and you know not.

….they will spare no pains to ruin you. They love to see you in trouble. Hatred has already shown itself through the utterances of their mouths and what their breasts hide is greater still. We have made clear to you Our commandments, if you will only use your understanding.

God has promised to believers, men and women, Gardens underneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide, and delightful dwelling-places in Gardens of Eternity. And the pleasure of God is the greatest of all. That is the supreme triumph.

Holy Quran

I advice whosoever receives this message, to be conscious of God, to remove your differences, and to strengthen your ties. The Prophet said: “Reconciliation of your differences is more worthy than all prayers and all fasting.

The Almighty God said : “The believing men and the believing women , they are guardians of each other , enjoin good and forbid evil… “God attaches primary importance to enjoining good and forbidding evil ” as a duty for men and women. For he knows that if it were fulfilled all the other duties , easy or hard , will be accomplished. That is because “enjoining good and forbidding evil” is a call for Islam , it regains the rights of the oppressed and opposes tyrants.

This is just a reminder.

And who is more faithful to his promise than God??

Sharon asks…

I’m having trouble in my garden. Bear with me, I think it’s psychological?

Deer are generally a chronic problem here in Montana. So I’m growing a cover crop around the garden with things they should like: field peas, buckwheat, rye.But no, they have little interest in them, they go for the potato plants. But just browsing a little. You go out into the forest and you find that deer follow the easiest paths to conserve the most energy. So I made good paths around the garden and between the rows, but no. They walk right through the soft just planted beds to get to the potatoes.

Then there are the gophers (really ground squirrels) that have riddled the garden with their burrows, coming up in the turnips, lettuce, cabbage etc. They don’t like the cover crop yet either. They have decimated a short row of lettuce, but left the rest of the garden alone. Now even a child knows that lettuce has no where near the nutritional value of the rest of the garden. I think their instincts must be off and don’t know what’s good for them. My question is this.
Do I have a deep-seated psychological need to have my buttons pushed by irresponsible, immature beings since my children are grown up and gone?

GardenersCardiff answers:

Okay, maybe you can rig up a sound system that plays a soothing voice (your voice) that whispers to the deer. I mean, it worked on a horse, why not whisper, “no,no, no” to them each night. 🙂 Just a thought.

Oh, and we all (those of us who have raised kids) have a deep seated psychological needs, if for no other reason, than we have we have RAISED KIDS… And amazingly made it through the process! I think it is normal. I wouldn’t worry about it.
