What is a good website where I can learn about gardening?
I live in NC and know there are different zones depending on which part of the country you live in. I would like to plant flowers in our yard but don’t really know where to begin. Is there a (good) website for beginners that will tell me when to plant certain types of flowers, how to take care of them, etc.? Something to help me get started. I would appreciate any help!

Yahoo has a great website that is an interactive forum where members from all over the country, including your state and in your growing zone, discuss when to plant certain plants. The benefit, too, is that you will find other gardeners in this group who live in your growing zone that wll either send you seeds, plants and/or cuttings for SASE or will trade with you. There is a database in this large group where you can input your growing zone and/or state, and find other members who are in similar climates.

I live in detroit,michigan and wanted to know what zone am I in as ar as gardening and planting flowers?
I have lots o sun in my front yard barely no shade at all.I dont have a green thumb and needed suggestions on what to plant. I love colors and would pefer perenials but I also need to know what annuals do you suggest I plant.Dont forget I have plenty o sun too much if you ask me

You can look up your hardiness zone on the newest map. Simply enter your zip code. Http://www.arborday.org/treeinfo/zonelookup.cfm I’m 48383 which is one of three small zone five areas in southeastern Michigan.
Note the 10 free trees link on the left hand menu.
Most plants prefer full sun. I believe this Saturday is the annual flower sale at Eastern Market. Http://www.easternmarket.org/ If you can’t make it there, most of the local home and garden centers will also have sales. I prefer English Gardens at Ford Rd and Outer Drive or any of the Randazzo locations will have plants at a discount.

What zone am I in, for gardening? Southern alabama.?
I just recently bought a couple acres and I am interested in growing a large garden. I have been doing alot of research online and come across things that say “This plant is good if you are in zone 5…” etc.. How do i determine what zone I am? I am at the very bottom of the state in baldwin county.

You are zone 8. Like one of the other answer givers said, check the USDA zone hardiness map. But, you are zone 8. I live in Birmingham and am just barely zone 7. What zone you are in will determine what kinds of plants you can grow in your area and whether or not they are likely to survive your winters and/or summers. In your area, you will do well with plants like Indica azaleas, gardenia, camellia, indian hawthorn and possible oleander and lantana..these are all typical Mobile area plants,,,, but even your winters will likely kill tropical hibiscus and giant bird of paradise. A great source I like is monrovia.com It has an advanced plant search feature that includes a filter for zone hardiness ratings. Good luck…and, oh,,,,Auburn or Alabama? 🙂
