how to give discounts without losing money?
i run a hydroponic/ garden supply store in northern california, and use quick books pos system. in this industry, discounts are expected and if not given customers will go to one of the other 3 shops in town. its not even really about saving money to most, its about getting 10 percent off. right now, we basically give discounts to those who come in often, or spend allot of money. but the problem is, different employees give different discounts to different people, sometimes people that dont even deserve a discount. so my question is, whats the best way to automate and review discounts through quickbooks? or, is there a better way to do it than a direct discount?

You have two different issues going on here.
1) How to develop/enforce a discount policy that will create customer loyalty and ultimately increase your profit; and
2) How to implement/track the discount policy.
I think you’re putting the cart before horse.
First you need to figure out what exactly you want the discount policy to be.
Then you need to figure out the nuts and bolts of how it will work (punch cards? Fixed percentage for certain items or sales thresholds? Whatever….)
Then you need to train your employees.
Lastly, you need to supervise and evaluate. Make sure the employees are following the policy and evaluate whether the policy is doing what you intended it to do.
Don’t hesitate to ask your employees for suggestions. My guess is that they aren’t clear when they should/shouldn’t give a discount so they err on making the customer happy. The employees may be GLAD to have a clearer policy and they might have some simple ideas on how it should work. It also doesn’t hurt to remind them that the more money the business makes, the more money you will have for their pay, benefits, pizza Friday, etc. 🙂
Ultimately the decision is YOURS. But you need to go about it a bit more analytically and be a leader. Figuring out how to do it in Quickbooks is one of the last steps…you just aren’t there yet. 🙂

I put my cell phone in a crate of bees and after a while they got all loopy and died. Are bees recyclable?
See, this guy I know is a garden supply guy, so he knows how to get a crate of bees, okay, and he got me one because we wanted to do an experiment… anyway their all dead now and should I put them out with the recycling or with the trash? Recycling is picked up on Monday, please help.

Bees arent recyclable sorry, but they are biodegradable! It wont do any damage to throw them out.

Seniors, More Fun. Are You Embarrassed to Open Your Garage Door During Daylight Hours?
My double car garage started out as neat and tidy, only holding the car and garden supplies. Now it is slowly or fastly (lol,) becoming a storage unit with everything that I don’t want in the house. I even have a dining room table out there that I have been “meaning” to refinish. What’s in yours or is it used as it was intended?

I had my son to build shelves in there so it’s really not too messy anymore. My big old SUV fits in there just fine. My garage is famous for me sitting out there in a lawn chair with my little table that holds a garage door opener, an ashtray for when I decide to smoke and after around 4pm…a wine glass. I am known in the community as the little old lady who sits in her garage, smoking and drinking. I am not at all embarrassed. Sometimes, my neighbors join me….it’s a wonderful life.
