Your Questions About Gardening

Susan asks…

how to stop people from stepping onto plants?

well i had some good seedlings and i transplanted them into the garden yesterday and sure thing today i found them all trampled over. i mean they are pretty easy to see if you look down chances are no one looked down and just walked all over it. im not really made about it since i have more seeds and all but how can i prevent this i mean i want to utilize my garden and where i planted them is where their is sun. the rest a big fruit tree is covering it i did trim most of it but the tree is big.

so how can i make it to the point someone won’t step on the plants? i don’t want to be container gardening all my life and i want to fix the garden up it hasn’t been maintained in YEARS..

something eye catching for older people because my grand and i are the only ones who go in the garden
hmm i think i will have to fence it off or simply grow them till they are somwhat root bound and plant them or at least grow in a bigger pot then transplant when bigger.

i transplanted when too early to avoid shock so they were too small to see i guess i’ll grow em bigger.

GardenersCardiff answers:

You can also place large stones or stakes around the plants. Stakes are cheap and you can spray paint them in neon colors so people cannot miss them. It may look tacky, but it’s cheap and worth it until the plants get big enough.

You can also put those tomato cage things around them short term.

David asks…

I’d like intelligent, respectful comments on my stated frustration.?

Maybe, I’m just expressing my frustrations rather than seeking an answer, as I’m not sure that an answer will exist in my lifetime. As a result of my past experiences, what I’ve learned works for me has more to do with a total package than one specific aspect of a person, yet each aspect is equally as important to make the package work for me. I understand that I’ve made choices that limit my options (many women aren’t interested in my choice of simple country living), and I accept responsibility for those choices and the resulting limitations. I have no desire to have anyone change for me. I am more interested in finding the rare woman who already fits what I am seeking.

I appreciate a woman who can carry on an intelligent conversation (not limited to text speak), someone who shows she cares about more than herself without ignoring taking care of herself (volunteering in her community), someone who has a good balance of respect, responsibility and playfulness, someone who respects differences in others without expecting them to conform to her values and beliefs (including my preference of philosophy over religion), someone who loves nature and isn’t averse to getting her hands dirty while working with me in the garden or on home projects, an easy-going woman who appreciates tranquility, subtleties and sensuality and hasn’t been numbed to anything but extremes, someone who is more introverted (like me) than extroverted, someone who values open/honest communication (not just filling all voids with non-stop chatter), someone who appreciates equality in a relationship rather than expecting to be provided her entitlement package (seeking no more than she brings to the relationship), and someone who prioritizes keeping herself healthy and fit (mentally and physically) (I’m drawn more to small packages than large packages – proportionally smaller than me).

The last item seems to be the issue for most women, as they seem to prioritize fine dining over presenting the best package they can. They say that it is normal to get fat as you age, yet I don’t see the reason that I can put forth the effort to exercise and watch what I eat, but they can’t. The ones who have maintained a slender body seem to feel that they should be rewarded monetarily for doing that. I expect no more from a partner than I am willing to do myself. Also, I am drawn to small-built women (not short), and it is challenging to find small-built women who don’t feel that they are flawed and not feminine. What’s the logic in the belief that women are more feminine as their breasts grow larger? It’s not much fun to be in a relationship with someone who feels insecure or defective. Can’t they see that for every type of person, there are people who truly appreciate what they have to offer?

Women get up in arms when I include a physical requirement, claiming that I am superficial and unrealistic, yet they don’t seem to have problems expressing their preferences in a partner who has a particular build or eye/hair color or tattoos or money. I’m not saying that women who don’t fit my ideal are bad or wrong or defective or even being rejected. I’m just identifying what works for me, so that my partner will know that she truly is an amazing woman to me and not that I am just settling for her. I want for the women I don’t choose to find happiness with partners who truly appreciate them as they are. We all deserve to be appreciated for the total package we choose to share with a partner. I wish our society promoted valuing uniqueness rather than conformity, so people could truly thrive with self-confidence and self-esteem.

I’m not interested in hearing you blast me for my choices, but I would like to hear well thought out comments to my desire for people to accept responsibility for the results of the choices they make and my desire for people to believe in what they have to offer and not settle for anyone who doesn’t appreciate their total package.

GardenersCardiff answers:

I understand your frustration. I have extremely high standards for myself and for others, and i don’t feel that settling for “almost” will ever work out.
However, i think that people like you and i sometimes create an idea or an image of our perfect mates that doesn’t exist anywhere other than our heads.
It’s a double edged sword.

Helen asks…

Why is there an account of God creating two adams in the Old Tetsament?

Im not saying this for argument sake i just need clarification as im studying my bible i find this part at the beggining of Genesis rather confusing? First it says God made Humans on the 6th day a man and a woman easy enough to understand. Yet as I read further it says on the 3rd day when God made the earth ( correct me please if im wrong) nothing was growing in the fields because God had not made it rain yet, there was no one to care for the plants. So water came up from the ground then God took dust from the earth or ground and made a man, He breathed life into him he was to take care of the garden of Eden. Saw that he was alone made him sleep deeply and took a rib and formed the first woman or Eve as we know. This is where im confused first it says humans were first made on day 6 now from further reading it states they were made on day 3 (never specificaly says day 3 yet we can assume because God just finished creating the earth on day 3) when earth and after sky was formed. Is this not a contradiction? First God made woman and man at the same time, now its saying he took Adams rib and made a women? Please some clarification maybe i missed something? I dont pretend to know alot about the Bible I just want some help understanding ? Thank you

GardenersCardiff answers:

The two accounts focus on different aspects of the story. Just because something is missing from one version (like three days passing) doesn’t necessarily mean it can’t have happened.

The first version is a list of what was made when.
The second version is a story about Eden.

Putting them together you get that God made the Earth on day 3, and then spent three days creating rain and other stuff that the second writer doesn’t consider relevant. Then He made Adam on day 6, took a rib and made Eve also on day 6. The first writer skipped the details and just said humans were created on that day.
