What’s a good website with plenty of useful information if I want to start a vege garden from scratch?
I have little gardening experience, and want a website that tells you everything, from the soil, what vegetables grow best under certain conditions, fencing the garden off, etc.

how to prepare a garden for new plants?
My existing garden is patchy and doesn’t grow well.I want to plant new plants and add colour,but the old plants have red leaves and it’s winter here.My grass is patch and the bed is a mixture of building sand and not very well balanced.I’ve seen many plants I want to plant instead,but how do you prepare the soil and how do you revive the old plants without damaging them?I have wild rose-bushes and ivy I’d also like to train up the wall,but I’m not sure if they will die if I do anything to the soil.

This sounds like an interesting project. You have the ability to totally transform your garden, but at the same time retaining the wild rose and ivy. First, might I suggest that you go to your local garden supplies shop and ask what they could supply by way of ‘top-soil’ or compost in your area. They should have a senior member of staff who could advise you and tell you what they can supply. As the wild rose and ivy seem to be thriving, leave them where they are, but dig around them. If you need to move them, dig them up when the new soil is in place, leaving as big a root ball as possible. Then dig over the rest of the garden and remove as much of the old plants that you no longer want also the sandy unsatisfactory soil etc. This could be a hard, physical task. If you cannot mange to do it yourself, you could employ a professional if they are available and you can afford them. Use a fork to well dig over the remaining soil and level it off. Then put the new top-soil all over the garden. If any of the new plants you have chosen are particularly fussy, when you dig the hole to plant them, you could add one or two spadefuls of peat or compost which you can buy at your garden store shop to the bottom of the hole, to give them a boost and get them started. To plant new plants, dig a large hole first and after adding the above mentioned compost always well firm in the soil to keep the plant in place. Water enough to give it adequate hydration but do not flood it. Keep the garden well watered but make sure there is enough drainage. You can add a top dressing of a good general purpose fertilizer to keep your new plants in top condition. Good Luck.
